design in-situ!
A story begins in such a way hoping to grab you so that you will enter a world of imagination, believe in it, and continue the journey.
In Situation or for short, in-situ is actually a Latin phrase that is commonly used in the construction industry to mean ‘on site’ or ‘in place’ or ‘in position’. Designers can use tool as a graphic technique to allow the viewer to participate within a real-like situation. It adds personality to a logo enhancing your chances of impressing a client, - what would their product reality be.
When designing a logo I always show my clients their proposed creative solutions within a real context so that they can make an assessment based on ‘perceived’ reality.
You don’t want this reaction! confusion.
Here’s what I mean …. in the 4 images below, you can see 3 possible logos placed in-situ for the clients' viewing. Once I hear there particular inclinations, I place the chosen logo (the one with which they were most happy) on another in-situ location, closer to the look of the building they were going to use. In all these images, the photographs were one’s I took but you can also utilize spot imagery or even ask the client to supply a photo of their ‘real situation’, and use that.
The client needs to be immersed into the situation so that they can properly assess the design choices for their product and/or service. You can also use an illustrative technique as you see here below.
Using this tool, in-situ, will definitely get you much farther ahead in the visual explanation you are hoping to achieve. For the final design if possible, apply it to the environment which replicates where the design will be placed. Help the client visualize your designs and get to the next step of approval faster.
