organized or chaotic?
Simple or confusing? Organized or chaotic? Which are you?
Your desktop, I mean the real one. It can help you with your work. Yup,it provides a cleaner visual field for your creative thoughts to be expressed. If you don’t believe me, try it. Place your computer, some paper and a ‘real’ writing device,…. and that’s it. All the other things you think you need, place off to the side and use when necessary.
As an instructor as well as a professional, I have observed that organization is one of the keys to success for junior designers. I find that having a system of files, folders, naming categories, subtitles, icons, colour coding, etc. are all quite good but can also be unorganized. Take time to clean up your system, review your process and start with the basics and then go from there. You may think that your ‘desk top’ is clean and simple therefore it is conducive towards clear and creativity thinking, but, it ain’t. It’s just another kind of chaos, it’s a digital chaos.
is this you?
The question is - what do you aspire to? Me, the bottom image. I might not be there yet I know I will get there. The cleaner you are the more creative you are - trust me.
or this?
What’s on your desk? Can you find that thumbnail you sketched on the napkin at lunch? Be creative, envision a clean desk - place that coffee cup, and put that pen and journal over there. Now, go to work. Start here, start somewhere …. and be inspired.
