Let it snow

As the year comes to an end and a new year begins, I am reminded of whence comes inspiration.

In a recent trip to Toronto, while walking one evening, when the snow had just fallen and the quiet of the night was so obviously apparent, I came upon a classic scene.

If you look at this photo which I took on the streets of Toronto last week, you must agree that it creates a sense of eeriness and hopefully beauty. I stopped to capture it. A moment in time. This is not when I would generally take the time to chose to construct the angles, the focal point, the composition. I simply utilized my cell phone camera - et voila.

shadows, contrast and angles create inspiration

What is it that is encapsulated in this image? There is colour, there is contrast, there is a catawampus angle (look that one up it’s a great word), there is line, there is tonality, there is duotone and tritone areas .... in the end there is emotion and a story.

BUT what story?

That is the point. It does not have to be there. It’s purpose is to inspire.

Move forward and be inspired by your surroundings, the people you meet, the small things found on the ground, the sounds you hear - the quiet. You never know when it will strike you, be prepared to capture it, enjoy.
